Opened a Bank Account
Opened a real savings or checking account (or custodial account with a parent), understand what bank it's at, and can access your balance.
The idea
Your kid has to know which bank, which type of account, and how to check the balance themselves. Walk in together. Let them ask the questions, not you. The first account changes how they relate to money: it stops being cash in a drawer and becomes a number they own and watch. That shift is bigger than the actual balance, which will be small anyway.
Steps
- Pick the bank in a quick adult conversation.
- Walk in together. Your kid asks the questions.
- Set up online access yourself, or alongside.
- Make a deposit.
What counts
A real account in your kid's name with active access. A balance screenshot is plenty.
