Insurance Awareness
Understand the insurance policies that affect you or your family (health, auto, renters, life, disability) and can explain what each one covers, what it costs, and what the deductibles are.
The idea
Insurance is the thing nobody understands until they need it badly. Pull out your family policies and walk through them with your kid: what's covered, what's not, what the deductible means, what would happen in scenario X. The kid who understands insurance at sixteen will navigate their twenties without the expensive surprises that hit everyone else. This single conversation is worth more than a year of personal finance class.
Steps
- Pull out every family policy: health, auto, renters, life, disability.
- Walk through each: covered, not covered, deductible, cost.
- Identify one realistic scenario per policy.
- Be able to explain each to a peer.
What counts
A documented walkthrough of every family policy with your kid able to explain each. A short writeup is plenty.
