Built a Portfolio

Built an investment portfolio of at least 3 holdings, held for 12+ months, with a written thesis for each position and documented performance.

The idea

Three holdings is enough to teach diversification without overwhelming. Have your kid write the thesis for each position: why this, why now, what would make me sell. Twelve months later, reread the thesis. Some will look smart. Some will look dumb. The honest reread is the whole milestone. Most adult investors never look back at their own reasoning, and that's why they make the same mistake twice.

Steps
  1. Open a brokerage. Pick 3+ holdings.
  2. Write a thesis for each: why this, why now, what would make me sell.
  3. Hold 12+ months.
  4. Reread the thesis at month 12.
What counts

A 3+ holding portfolio held 12+ months with written theses and a reread. The portfolio plus the theses are plenty.
