Ten finished pieces is harder than ten started ones. The discipline is the boring middle: the days when the piece is no longer exciting and not yet good. Most kids have a folder of half-things. Voice only emerges across finished work, because the unfinished pieces don't connect to anything. Make them finish the bad ones. They learn more from finishing a bad piece than starting a great one.

1. 01Pick one medium and stick to it. Not ten forms.
2. 02Finish every piece before starting the next. No exits.
3. 03Show pieces 5 and 10 to the same outside reviewer. They should see the voice forming.
4. 04Display all ten together at the end.
